Professor Kanchan Chakma is currently the first Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Rangamati Science and Technology University. Recently, he worked as Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Rangamati Science and Technology University from February 2022 to September 2022. He was the professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Chittagong. He received the Ph.D. degree in Medical Science from Tohoku University, Japan. His current research interests include cancer biology and bioinformatics.
Besides the University of Chittagong, he also worked at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine & Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM), Divisional DNA Screening Laboratory (Ministry of Women and Children Affairs), and Popular Diagnostic Centre (Dhaka).

He was awarded fellowship of MEXT/NSRA (Nuclear Safety Research Association) as a Researcher at Ibaraki University, Japan and Japanese Government (Monbukagausho) MEXT Scholarship (Ph.D. Program), Global Scholar-in-Training Award of the American Association for Cancer Research.
